Insights on leadership for results and moving groups to action

After an intense week of working with leaders in very complex situations, clear lessons for getting groups and enhancing leadership in groups to move to action have emerged for me. I invite you to add and challenge my insights.
Follow up:
• Set context by telling the story of how the group got to this specific time and place in their conversation • Anytime the group or individuals are confused as to where they are revisit how they got to this specific point in time and in the conversation • Remind them of the result and that they are always experimenting • Acknowledge achievement continuously • Remind the individuals in the group to be generous to themselves and others - being in the space of learning • Stop frequently to ask what the conversation is about and which conversation to focus on if multiple are going on • Brainstorm and develop proposals in small groups, make decisions in plenary • Never end before the one next step and person undertaking it has been agreed on • Always ask about interest vs. position • Allow space to differentiate, then seek to integrate interests • Write down all proposals, be clear if new contributions are modifications or counterproposals • Fragmentation can occur when the pressure to align is an either/or and forces partner to choose between own result (performance measure) and partnership result • Moving forward can mean that not everybody has to participate • Leadership moves can be active or reflective - moving or staying interested • Sub-optimization for the sake of the group has to be done authentically without pressure| « Achieving Results Through High Action and High Alignment | Snowed in...Again! » |
